"As if it Were Spring" - On Artistic Growth

"As if it Were Spring"
Colored pencil, marker, micron pen, and acrylic
This piece is exciting to me not because it's the best thing I've made to date, but because for the first time I recognized the scope of my ability to improve myself. I tried out a whole bunch of new subjects and techniques in this piece, and it was a real stretch. ...But it worked out.

I mean, can we please take a moment to look at what I was calling my best work four years ago?

I've been writing papers and researching nonstop for the past four years, leaving precious little time for art. So, I'm pretty impressed with what I've been able to achieve through occasional tinkering. ...And I'm really excited to see what I can do now that I'm able to dedicate a lot more time to my artistic practice!

I can't wait until I look back and think that my current favorite piece is junk. :)
